Project Associate

About Our Roots: Our vision at Our Roots is to build legacies of generational mental wellness by and with communities of color impacted by poverty. We do this by virtually connecting pregnant and postpartum communities to peer coaches to promote healing and prevent anxiety and depression. Our 501(c)(3) tech non-profit is supercharged by philanthropic foundations and individual donors who believe in our mission.

About the Role: Our Roots is excited to work with a bilingual Project Associate who fluently speaks English and Spanish, enjoys being part of an early-stage startup, and wants to be a part of creating a world in which every pregnant and postpartum person can experience joy during the perinatal period and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a meaningful tech nonprofit as one of our first employees. This role will start with a 3-month contract with the potential to convert to a full-time position.

The ideal candidate is energized by the ambiguity that comes with early-stage startups, and is excited to keep the beat for our organization. That means, you’ll keep us organized, plan events, and support us in shifting power to our communities. This entails building relationships with our communities through outreach and scheduling peer coaching calls; supporting coaches with technical issues; project and event management; crafting communications; building relationships with other community organizations; and growing our internal resource database that our peer coaches use. As with most startups, your goals and responsibilities will change as the organization grows.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Feels discontent with our current maternal healing and mental wellness systems, channels discontent and a healthy dose of optimism into getting us closer to our vision

  • Is extremely organized and keep us on track despite the shifting nature of a small and growing social venture

  • Is not afraid to dive into a variety of projects that are administrative and tactical that fuel our impact

  • Speaks English and Spanish fluently

  • Has a deep respect for the cultures and beliefs of our birthing people and an understanding of the systems that impact their lives

  • Feels at home using project management tools such as Airtable and Excel and thrives in vibrant environments where prioritization and time management are key

  • Is energized by the ambiguity and shifting nature of a budding social venture like ours

  • Can work collaboratively with teammates

  • Feels confident and comfortable being proactive and working independently

  • Has the ability to build transformative relationships

  • Shares lived experiences with our communities

Location: This role is 90% remote and 10% in person, therefore, we are looking for candidates who live in or nearby Alameda County in the East Bay, California.  You will need to be in person for specific occasions such as annual events, community organizing events, and building partnerships in person.
