Our Vision
We envision a world in which every community beginning with BIPOC perinatal communities who are impacted by poverty can build a legacy of mental wellness
$31,800
average cost per birthing parent & child
with untreated PMADs due to loss
in productivity, preterm births,
developmental delays, and health issues
Why does this matter?
over 1 million
people of color give birth on Medicaid or uninsured each year. Our current mental wellness systems are one-size fits all, and often do not meet their needs.
38%
of birthing people of color, 2x the rate
of the general population, experience
perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
(PMADs).
How is Our Roots taking action?
We virtually connect BIPOC, low-income communities to peer support coaches who share lived experiences with them to prevent perinatal anxiety and depression. This is how:
01. WE RECEIVE REFERRALS THROUGH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS
02. PEER COACHES SHARE MORE ABOUT THE SERVICE
03. BIRTHING PEOPLE WHO OPT IN RECEIVE VIRTUAL, WEEKLY WELLNESS SESSIONS WITH OUR PEER COACHES AND CUSTOMIZED RESOURCES
What makes us unique?
Preventative
We offer services to BIPOC birthing people regardless of their diagnosis because we know many people in our communities are underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

Culturally Reverent
We hire peer coaches who share lived experiences with our communities, equitably pay them, and offer ongoing training that supports them in elevating birthing parents' cultures and needs.
Radically Accessible
Our service is free to birthing parents, and accessible on our low-tech platform to anyone with a smartphone.
